High performance polymer bushing

Thordon Bearings solutions reduce operating costs, provide long life, eliminate oil and grease while resisting abrasives.

  • Homogeneous polymers and thermoplastics
  • Self-lubricating and without risk of pollution
  • High resistance to abrasion and corrosion
  • Low operating friction
  • Long life expectancy
  • Easy to machine and install

Grades and configurations

ThorPlas-Blue - ThorPlas-White

Homogeneous material developed specifically for high load applications.

  • Maximum dynamic working pressure 45MPa (6527psi) static pressure 60MPa (8702psi)
  • Easily machinable without affecting the low coefficient of friction (typically 0.10-0.17)
  • Negligible wear in non-abrasive environments
  • Maximum service temperature of 80ºC (176ºF) in water and 110ºC (230ºF) dry
  • Excellent dry starting capability as vertical pump bearings
  • Good abrasion resistance - better than bronze, phenolics and most non-metallic bearing materials
  • Improved chemical resistance in most chemicals
  • NSF/ANSI 51 certification (ThorPlas-White)

Thordon SXL

Excellent dry starting ability and a lower coefficient of friction than other Thordon elastomer grades.

  • Maximum working pressure 10MPa (1450psi)
  • Reduced friction coefficient (typically 0.10 – 0.20)
  • Maximum service temperature of 60ºC (140ºF) in water and 107ºC (225ºF) dry
  • Higher abrasion resistance than XL in wet applications; good resistance to abrasion in dry uses
  • Useful in cases of dry starting of vertical pumps
  • High resistance to shock and vibration

Composite (GM2401) / RiverTough

A 2-part pad formulated specifically for use in highly abrasive environments.

  • Used in rotating applications where water is abrasive such as pumps or dredging
  • Impressive abrasion resistance 2 to 3 times higher than rubber
  • Much lower coefficient of friction than rubber
  • Resilience and hardness superior to rubber
  • Available in yellow or metallic polymer shells

COMPAC

Polymer bearing developed for ship propulsion shafts.

  • Unique design that promotes hydrodynamic film development
  • Low coefficient of friction makes starting easier
  • Water lubricated bushing eliminates oil in the stern tubes
  • No gasket required, water drains out the end of the stern tube
  • Approved by major classification societies
  • The addition of the cone key system allows inspection of the bearing without removing the shaft

Thor-flex (Thorseal)

Flexible polymer with high mechanical strength developed for sealing applications.

  • Long service life due to the self-lubricating properties of ThorSeal polymer
  • Higher elastic limit than other seals available on the market
  • High resistance to extrusion
  • Operating temperature from -50˚C (-60˚F) to 90˚C (195˚F)
  • Operating pressure of 0 – 15,000 psi
  • Custom manufacturing according to your application
