SOME SIMPLIFIED TECHNICAL TERMS REGARDING THE MATERIAL WE OFFER
Yield : the most important characteristic of steel. This is the limit before permanent deformation
Tensile : this value is always higher than the elastic limit. This is the limit before the steel fractures.
Material test report (MTR) : each product we offer is accompanied by a material test report)which indicates for instance the chemical and physical characteristics
CHROMED BARS
Regular chromed bar : type 1045 (or 38MnVS6) or 4140 (or 42CrMo4V) steel covered with a layer of chrome often 0.001 thick
Induction chromed bar: type 1045 or 4140 steel having undergone heat treatment (quenching) whose thickness varies depending on the diameter and which is then covered with a layer of chrome often 0.001 thick
38MnVS6 chromed bar : European steel recognized for its machinability thanks to its high manganese content. Mainly used for manufacturing cylinder rod
42CrMo4V chromed bar: European steel recognized for its shear and torsion resistance. Used for manufacturing highly stressed cylinder rod or pins
STEEL TYPE 1045, 4140, 4340
HRA (Annealed) : annealing which made it possible to relax the steel which offers average strength and is easy to machine
HR (Hot Rolled) : hot rolled whose exterior surface is often machined
HT (Heat Treated): heat treatment which offers superior resistance (hardness approximately 32 Rc)
TGP(Turn Ground Polished) : material that has been polished and ground and ready for use without further transformation. Also called "precision steel" for its very precise tolerances
Sometimes there is a combination of terms. Example: HR HT, HT TGP, etc.
STAINLESS STEEL
PSQ (Pump shaft quality) : term specific to stainless steel but whose finishing quality is comparable to TGP. High quality material
